Bartlett, Texas, has such unique architecture and rich history that it only makes sense to reuse and repurpose what is already there for future growth. That is why announcing what is happening at The Bartlett Lumber Company is so exciting!
The Bartlett Lumber Company dates all the way back to 1907. Bartlett was in its prime at this time, and it was the peak of the Texas timber industry. Timber production was the third largest manufacturing enterprise in Texas in the early 1900s, alongside agriculture and ranching, and Texas was one of the largest lumber producers in the US.
By the 1920s, however, most of the forests had been cut, lumber in Texas became severely depleted, and the lumber industry slowed substantially. The onset of the Great Depression in the 1930s only worsened matters and completely devastated the industry. Lumber companies, including Bartlett Lumber, were exhausted of timber and forced to close their doors, thus ending the 50-year “bonanza era” that claimed approximately 18 million acres of forest.
The Bartlett Lumber Company will gain new life as restoration and renovations begin to create The Bartlett Lumber Co. Lofts. These upscale apartments with modern amenities will overlook The Lumber Yard, which will feature a playground, food truck park, and beer garden.
